Strong contrasts, delicate washes and lovely light make this a very calm and serene painting.
Terry had a wonderful way of using layers of colour which glow through his washes, particularly evident in his use of complimentary colours here, with buttery yellows and subtle mauves contrasting with the deep purples and dropped in ochres.
