Painting Seas and Skies
Hi from me, Martin at Terry Harrison Art, I hope this newsletter finds you well.
This week I have a great offer on one of Terrys Books!
I may have mentioned it before but I am very lucky to live right near the coast of the North East UK and we are blessed with some wonderful beaches and coastlines.
On a recent walk the weather was turning and whilst the sea was flat the skies were full of stormy potential:

I can see the deep greys that come from combining ultramarine with midnight green along with hints turquoise towards the horizon line.
When I was editing this image I was reminded of Terrys knack for coastal scenes and after a bit of digging found some photographs of the original test images that went towards his excellent book Painting Watercolour Sea and Sky.

Here are some of the originals that went into the book - you should be able to see a little more detail as well as a sense of scale in some cases as you can see see the edges of the paper:

This is the Bass Maine Lighthouse in Maine USA - to give you an idea how well this has captured the scene here is a photo of the same scene:

I think you would agree that Terry has done a marvellous job here! It is also one of the step by step tutorials we have available.

The book is a great reference for anyone looking to paint dramatic skies and moody seas - If you use code SEASKY at checkout you will get 15% off the book which you can find here.
We have also had a lot of interest in Terrys paintings that are up for sale with a few new items being added to the shop - you can browse his original paintings here.
That's its from me this week - I hope you all have wonderful weekend and as ever, Happy Painting
Martin
